Faculty Member, Anthropology
Professor of Cultural Anthropology
About
I am a professor of cultural anthropology and the director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. As the only anthropologist at Westminster, I teach a wide variety of courses and have broad interests in anthropology.
I have particularly strong interests in the anthropology of religion and medical anthropology. Earlier fieldwork included an investigation of the spirit possession/healing cults in Trinidadian Kali worship. Currently, I am working on trying to understand the illness narratives found in Alcoholics Anonymous.
In terms of geographical area, much of my work (before the AA project) has been in Asia: Japan, Malaysia, India.
I also serve on the board of the Central States Anthropological Society.
